The following is the slate of board candidates to be voted on 11/13/24 at the annual meeting. The Nomination Committee recommends a Yes vote for all candidates. Any open slots can be filled in the future as candidates are identified and approved by vote of the Board of Directors.
Carl Streiff – I am a 25-year Shalimar resident and 50-year resident of Tempe. As the current president of the Shalimar Association, I am leading the campaign to Save Shalimar. I bring energy, enthusiasm, focus, and commitment to the task at hand. I am willing to sacrifice a sizable portion of my personal life toward the goal of Saving Shalimar. The current situation requires a high degree of engagement from all board members, and I am willing to put in the time. I have effective communication skills in-person, written, and in presentation. I can effectively engage individuals and groups in a variety of organizations (public/private), roles/responsibilities and various positions. I believe my experience in successfully solving complex problems in numerous situations, in different industries (semiconductor, solar, aerospace), has direct applicability to working across multiple stakeholder groups to arrive at a win/win solution regarding the golf course property.
Curtis Wood – I am the current Treasurer of the Shalimar Association. I have experience and understanding of organizational financial matters. I have experience with maintaining accurate records of financial transactions as well as required documentation of the 501(C)(4). I have implemented robust financial controls and auditing processes in my role as treasurer. I am dedicated to the success of our mission to save Shalimar, and I am committed to being a good steward of all contributions made to the cause. I have been an active member of the Shalimar Community. I am enthusiastic about the Save Shalimar campaign and wish to continue to contribute.
Trudy Mussigman – I have lived in Shalimar since 2018 and have experienced the comradery of community that the Shalimar Golf Club brings to the neighborhood. I am dedicated to our effort to save Shalimar and will assist the best way I can to bring success to this cause. I have previous HOA board experience. As the current Shalimar Association board secretary, I utilize my strong listening skills and encourage other board members to use their skill sets to assist in saving Shalimar the best way they can. I have provided organization to board meetings, documenting ideas, and suggestions, providing feedback, and following up on action items. I have been a highly active board member, driving discussions and decision-making efforts supporting the Save Shalimar effort.
Daryl Vierra – I live on the golf course and appreciate what this incredible green space means to so many. The pride of neighborhood ownership has always been evident in Shalimar. I would like to stay on the 2025 BOD for the Shalimar Association and continue the effort to save Shalimar. I have utilized my organization and analytical skills to develop and implement both a protest and general petition to stop the rezoning. I believe that saving Shalimar is possible, but not guaranteed. Without hard work and collaboration, we will fail. I do not want to fail. I like being a thorn in the side of people trying to change our neighborhood (who do not have the best of intentions). I am always thinking about ways to save this Tempe gem and would like to continue to bring ideas into action as we work together as a community.
Stacey Chamberlain – We moved to the Shalimar neighborhood for its uniqueness, beautiful green space filled with trees and wildlife, and a very welcoming, caring community of neighbors. Having learned that the property was in jeopardy of being rezoned, I joined the effort to preserve this community for the future. I would like to stay on as a board member, as we have positive, productive momentum to carry out this mission all the way to the end and achieve our collective goal; to which I’d like to continue to be a part of, lending a hand, giving advice or raising a glass (as needed). Moving forward our commercial design and architecture backgrounds should be of use for organizing, leading, and creating our Plan B think tank sessions.
Sean Rogers – My family’s home is on the golf course. I am passionate about our cause and have made many contributions in the past as a board member. I have distributed fliers, worked on public events, consistently posted on social media, and coordinated speakers for City Council Meetings. I have also served on other charity and non-profit boards and understand the fiduciary responsibilities, as well as developing strategic plans. I fully support our current board leadership and laud their efforts and approach. In particular, their consideration of an ethical and behavioral based approach, which has proven effective in winning support from Tempe Council Members and influencers. I am here to continue helping.
Kathleen Ross – Shalimar is incredibly special to my family. My husband and I were married in the Shalimar courtyard, and we had our wedding reception there. We live along Hole 9. I have a background in event planning and fundraising, having successfully coordinated events for many large charitable organizations. I am also active in volunteering for community events such as Tempe Sister Cities and Oktoberfest. I believe this experience will be extremely useful as we worked together to save Shalimar. I have been an active member of the Shalimar Association for 7 years and want to continue to work to save this precious green space for all of Tempe.
Werner Bruckner II – I am a 21-year Shalimar golf course/neighborhood resident. My motivation for staying on the Shalimar association board and the “Save Shalimar Committee” is to stay connected and support the cause of saving the best kept secret in Tempe. As the membership chair for the past 10+ years, I have been able to provide metrics on numbers of association members and funds collected throughout the previous years. I am committed to the cause and will continue to support any group functions or projects/tasks. Shalimar is worth saving for all of Tempe.
Elba Quintero – I have lived in the Shalimar neighborhood for over 40 years, and in Tempe for 56 years. I am committed to helping save Shalimar. I am a lover of wildlife, trees, and open spaces. I communicate well with people and have made dozens of public presentations during my 31 years of service with The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). I have a bachelor’s degree in international agriculture and a PHD in entomology. I also have a certificate as a Master Gardener. I will utilize my years of experience in dealing with people and solving problems, collaborating with the larger community to save this incredible green space for all to enjoy.
Mark Randall – I am a long-time resident of Shalimar and Tempe. This neighborhood and green space are worth fighting for. Not just for today, but for the future Tempe and our collective community. I have actively participated in successful efforts to maintain this green space over the past 40 years. Understanding the history of the cause, what works when reaching out to the community and city council for support, and knowing the effort required to wage a successful campaign, are all experiences I bring to the Shalimar Association board of directors. Having lived in the neighborhood for so long, I have a large network of neighbors, friends and family that share my enthusiasm and passion. I am committed to Saving Shalimar.
